scene 2

“What are you doing this Saturday?”
“Well, I have no plans.”
“Great, I will see you this Saturday then.”
“Okay.”
Jane lives in South part of Connecticut. Steve lives in New York City. They were able to meet each other when Jane came to New York about two weeks ago. Jane’s friend Nicole introduced her friend Steve to Jane at the bar. Steve fell in love with Jane at first sight.
It’s Saturday afternoon. Jane could hear the sound of car outside her house. There was Steve waiting in the car.
“Hey Steve, welcome to Connecticut.”
“Where are we going today?”
“To my secret little place.”
They held hands together and the sunlight was brighter than ever. They arrived at the base of East Rock Mountain in New Haven. Steve drove all the way to the top of the mountain.
“I usually come here when I want to meditate or to think about something. This place refreshes my memory and stuff.” Jane said.
“I envy you Jane. I wish I have a place like this near my area.”
From the top of the mountain, everything they saw looked tiny such as buildings, cars, even people. The cars were moving but they looked like toys. Steve spread a mat on the grass and took out a sandwich he made for Jane. Jane was impressed by his sincerity and preparedness. After they finished their lunch, Jane and Steve started to talk. Steve told Jane that he was studying at medical school and going to be a doctor. Jane was studying hospital management. Jane expressed how she was so happy and comfortable as if they have been good friends for a long time. She never felt like this before. She appreciated the fact that he truly cared about her. Jane definitely thought about having a long-term relationship with Steve. But somehow, Steve kept trying to avoid talking about long-term relationship and future type of conversation. He only cared about the present like other guys. Steve thought his vision was more important than anything else in the world. By listening to his dazzling dream he had, Jane got into him even more.
When Jane was alone by herself, all she could think about was Steve. She knew when she falls for someone, she had hard time concentrating on other things in her life. Love was first thing for her. Jane kept calling Steve whenever she missed him and wanted to talk to him. Jane felt she couldn’t live without Steve. Jane started to be obsessive with Steve. Whenever she couldn’t reach Steve, she began to feel very anxious that he might be cheating on her. As Jane’s love for him got deeper, it seemed like Steve was running away from her.
One day, Jane decided to go to see Steve without telling him. Jane wanted to surprise him. She made his favorite cupcake which was red velvet. By the time she arrived at Steve’s house, Jane was astonished and she dropped her cupcake box. Jane saw Nicole and Steve coming out of his house, holding their hands together. Jane never imagined this was going to happen in her life. At that moment, every single movement of Steve and Nicole appeared in slow motion. His rigid eye movement, stunned face, fake smile to make it seem like it was nothing just frustrated Jane so much that it almost made her faint.
“…………….Hi.”
After a long silence, Nicole broke the air. Jane could not even look at her in the eyes. Jane did not even know why but she felt guilty. It was not her fault but just by looking at them, she felt that she should not have witnessed them together in the first place.
“I’m going to go now.”
Jane tried to move, but strangely, it was not easy. She forced herself to step forward. Jane desperately wanted Steve to say something. But he did not say a single word. He just stood there in silence. Jane did not turn around and looked them once. After she got back home, the obscene moment that she had observed replayed over and over again in her mind. She could not even remember how she got back home. The world in front of her seemed so cold like nobody was on her side.
Next day, Steve called Jane. She did not want to pick up the phone so she ignored them several times. She felt that if she picked up the phone, their relationship would end right there and then forever. Jane did not want to lose him because she was sure he was the only one for her. But Steve won’t give up calling her. She finally answered his call. Their conversation started and their last word was like this.
“How could you do this to me? You told me you were going to love me forever”
Jane cried.
“I’m tired of this… I can’t take this anymore. I got enough of you!” Steve replied.
“…..”
She thought he was going to at least say that he was sorry. He did not and Jane had nothing to say but to hang up the phone.
This is how their relationship ended.
After they broke up, a week was like a year to Jane. Jane couldn’t eat well, talk well, and live well. She couldn’t stop thinking about him. She was in denial that Steve left her. She hoped and prayed that Steve might come back to her. On the second week of pain and crying, she eventually realized that she had to move on. Jane decided to work hard so she can forget Steve. She worked at a restaurant at night and studied during the day. She was able to focused on studying because she learned from the mistakes. Jane figured out why he got tired of her. Her friend Nicole was such a cool and aggressive businesswoman. She was a very independent woman. For Nicole, work and love was two different things. Jane realized how she acted was wrong. She only wanted someone beside her, someone to talk to, and someone to guide her. As it was, things never worked out for them. It was true that Jane couldn’t get over him completely, but she tried to move on and pursue her dream gradually.

Lod : Scene 2

After several dates, Dan and Jill arrive to Jill’s neighborhood from a restaurant. The taxi-cab driver tells Dan “You forgot your change”. Dan responds “Keep it”. “Thank you boss, you just made my day” says the cab driver. Jill smiles as they walk out of the cab. Before Dan there is a tall white building with balconies and occupants who are up late at night as he can see the lighted rooms through the windows. Dan “This is your place?”. “Yes” she responds. The building before Dan is nothing like he saw around Israel, so big and clean maintained streets. Jill tells Dan “Lets walk over here”. Dan follows Jill through into a beautiful park that’s specially made for little children to play In during the day time. Dan responds “Nice place”.

She grapples the rails before the park smiling and attempts to feel how it’s like to be taller than Dan. They walk around the building and finally return to the street that’s next to the entrance into the lobby. Parked outside is brand new 2007 silver Toyota FJ Cruiser. Dan thinks to himself These cars must be rare here, we’ve got plenty of them in the USA. Dan walks with Jill into her lobby before the entrance into the condominiums. “Thanks for tonight” Jill tells Dan. “Sure” Dan tells her and they call it a night.

The next day Dan takes the bus to the Lod mall from his cousin’s house in Ramla where he temporarily resides and plans to meet Jill there on her day off. Dan takes an apple with him after his breakfast there and walks to the bus stop in the hot and heavy feeling climate. Dan throws the apple pit over a nearby fence after waiting for the bus to arrive which took approximately a half hour. Dan thinks Damn!, this is going to take forever. I must have missed the bus a few minutes before I came here. He asks a woman who is waiting nearby to double check “Excuse me, Do you know if this bus is heading towards Lod Mall?” . “Yes, that’s right, if you’re not sure where to get off ask the driver and he’ll tell you”. “Thank you” he responds. The bus arrives from a distance and Dan digs into his pockets for change. He gets off the stop and meets Jill inside who is sitting on a bench watching a boy play his remote control car.

“Hi” says Jill as she rises and they head out to a bus stop where they are planning to go to a much bigger mall that’s called Azrieli. They sit on the bench under the bus stop roof and a many of the buses that stop there go to different routes. After a long wait surrounded by a really hot temperature they stood up and watched the sidewalk under a large tree where much of its berries have fallen. She then tells him “I’ve got a better idea; there’s a lot of stores here that sell similar stuff at the other mall” she informs him. He follows her as they encounter a big clothing store. There is one customer sales representative that is at the cash register and the other strolling around the store making sure everything is neatly organized.

“Can I help you?” he asks Dan. “Thanks, maybe in a moment” Dan responds. Dan looks around the store and finds many t-shirts and collar t-shirts that have unique designs on them. Dan feels the material of the clothes’ fabric and finds many of them to be polysynthetic which is tough to wear, especially in hot climates. Dan looks through the jeans too and finds many of them to be too tight and European lacking the loose and comfortable feeling that’s predominantly worn by men in the USA. Dan tells Jill “Big store, wide collection, but not really my taste”. “Do you want to look some place else?” Jill inquires. “Sure” he responds.

They exit and on their way they encounter a grocery store where Dan buys snacks and a couple of drinks. They cross the street and enter another store and this time they find t-shirts that are one hundred percent cotton. The salesman is excited to sell his products and offers Dan two shirts for a man and a woman imported from the United Kingdom for a really good price. “I’ll take it” Dan tells the salesman.

A Daughter's Vengeance--Another Scene

Things were great for the first six years of her life. Paige and her parents lived in a modest two-story colonial in a modest neighborhood. Her father was up for partner and both her and her mom were excited for him. They had met his opponent, Humphrey Jinsberg, and decided that even though he was very charismatic, her dad was the better candidate. In less than a week after they met him, Mr. Jinsberg was shot point blank in the garage as he left work late one night. Allegations were that his death was revenge by a convict he had helped put away, but perhaps it had more to do with the conversation Paige had overheard between her father and Pete Thornbury, an ex-con who her dad helped set free.
“How soon do you think you can get this done?” her father asked, tensely.
He must have responded unfavorably because she heard her father growl in a voice she could not identify with, “Pete, I need Jinsberg dead and the sooner the better. Need I remind you that you owe me a favor?” With that he slammed the phone down and muttered under his breath, “Son of a bitch.”
Needless to say, Carl Pendergast made partner. In that same week his second daughter, Shana, was born.
Her sister was only a few days old when her father’s aggression started to surface. She knew he was a large man but the fear he was driving into their lives made him seem more monstrous. It was like their home had been transformed into a courtroom where he intimated and threatened except he was also slapping his wife around. His wife took a blow for everything, even things that had nothing to do with her.
“’Cilla, where are my keys?”
“You left them on the kitchen counter, hon.”
“Well, they aren’t there anymore! And I’m running late! I need my damn keys!”
He glanced over at her rocking the baby to sleep and for no apparent reason grabbed a fistful of her hair and yanked her up from the sofa.
“Woman, you need to get your ass up and help me look for my keys!” he said between clenched teeth.
Paige started to cry. She had never seen him like this. Who was this man? Her father would never hurt her mother. He loved her. He loved his family.
“Paige, go to your room.” He seemed ashamed, contrite even, that she had seen him treat her mother this way. Obediently, but quite confused she went to her room and closed her door. She heard her mother yelp but she dared not look to see why. She was too frightened.
“Paige, let’s go!”
It was as though what he had done was the norm. Carl was his old self again as he drove his daughter to school. Paige did notice the bruise on her mother’s arm and the sadness in her eyes as she waved goodbye. She was silent during the ride to school. She had so many questions but this man who had replaced her dad was unpredictable.
Her father’s temper grew wilder over the years. The girls were spared his wrath but their mother felt his full fury. Had it not been for the black eyes and the bruises, one would never suspect that she was abused. Priscilla was the most kind-hearted and forgiving person one would ever meet. She tried unsuccessfully to hide her sadness from her kids. Paige’s intuition was way too keen and over the years her inability to help her mother forced her into withdrawal. She had never actually witnessed an episode of the abuse until one Friday night when her father came home with an unfounded accusation.

Another scene from: Daily Walks

La, la, la, la. Na, na, na. Louis went on humming to himself. He was humming incoherent melodies. Melodies that did not make sense, but were his song. He walked over to his piano and banged out couple of chords at which the landlord went up to knock on his apartment door.
“You ape when are you going to move out?”
“La La La La” Louis went on.
“Rent is due, the place is a filth, and you make to much noise. People complain. I am loosing tenants because of you…” A soon as Louis noticed him he just shouted louder and louder. As if trying to overpower him and drown him out. The landlord eventually gave up, shut the door and left Louis in his madness.
After scribbling a few measures on the wall Louis threw his pencil across the room. He grabbed his coat and left. The coat was still damp from the storm that had caught him the other day and was catching a moldy odor. As he went through the streets he kept on humming at full volume. People stopped to look and laugh.
“Is that him?”
“No it can’t be!”
“What, can’t you recognize him? It surely is!”
“I only wonder what is going through his head.”
No one knew what he was thinking, but only he himself.
“She is waiting and waiting only for me. Her father…oh her father how do I tell her?” Louis thought along his walk. Once he reached the meadow he sat by the brook, under the shield of a tree. He takes out a paper from his pocket and starts to write. In his in search for words he observes the dew sparkling on the grass. He sees a shepherd guiding his herd, ringing his bell. The flowers releasing their fragrance make for a beautiful day. As he sits in this quite and abandoned place his heart starts to mourn and a tear forms in his eye. He writes. As the tear escapes a lark seems to respond by flapping his wings. It seems to be singing his song as it flies of, taking it up into the sky. Louis quickly puts himself together, puts the letter into his pocket, gets up and proceeds through the meadow towards Lisa’s house. As he arrives he is greeted with a hug and a kiss. Immediately without any words Lisa and Louis work their way into the bedroom. The clothes come off in pieces and perfectly timed intervals. Their feelings are consummated. Louis realizes that he must tell her. Tell her what he saw yesterday.
“Lise”
“Yes, are you thirsty?” she asks.
“I went to town yesterday. To the bookstore and…you father”
“Oh did he finally run into you? What did he say?”
“As I left the store he turned his back and I mine…”
“That’s it? What did he tell you, I know he is extremely angry with you coming by our house?”
“I felt the need to talk to him so I turned around and saw three men grabbing him, and they all scuffled. After it was all over he was just there, lying on the ground in a pool of blood, motionless, dead.” Lise’s face sank in horror, anger, and fear. She got up and without even putting her clothes on ran out. Louis yelled for her to stop and come back. She did. She returned with her pitchfork.
“No, stop, you don’t understand I coul…” he could not finish due to the pounding he was receiving from Lise.
“You fool, you half mad beast how could you. How could you let that happen?”
“I didn’t…”
“You saw my father get killed and you did nothing.” She no longer could contain herself and stabbed him. Louis drew his last breath as one of Lisa’s breasts hit his cheek. Once it was over Lise sat, put the fork down, and tried to catch her breath. She glanced towards the corner. She noticed his coat. She noticed the pockets bulging with papers. Curious at what they were and if they could benefit her she went to get them. She found a letter addressed to her. She opened it and proceeded to read it.
“My angel, my all, my other self…I am bound to be misunderstood…” started the letter. Lise started to put her clothes back on. Looked out the window. Heard a lark. Went out side with the letter.
